Amazon Prime Day 2022 is here with great discounts on Disney toys, books, collectibles, travel accessories, and more! This post rounds up the best deals during “Black Friday in July” for your Walt Disney World vacations, plus products that will make great gifts for yourself or others.
For those unfamiliar with it, Prime Day is essentially Amazon’s Christmas in July sale; as the moniker above suggests, it’s the mid-year version of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It certainly makes sense for the retail behemoth to create its own money-saving holiday, as they’re already the single-biggest source of deals in November and December. The last few years we’ve spent about the same amount during Amazon Prime Days as we have on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Other chains are getting in on the “fun” of Amazon Prime Day 2022, which is due to the bullwhip effect in action. For the last two years, retailers could barely keep items stocked due to record consumer spending and supply chain disruptions. That resulted in businesses ordering more merchandise…which arrived just as consumer spending started to shift to services.
Retailers like Walmart, Target, Best Buy, and more now face a glut of inventory as inflation-squeezed shoppers are making fewer discretionary purchases due to the rising prices of gas and groceries. Consequently, retailers are reporting a steep jump in inventory levels from a year ago from a mix of items not selling and supply chain delays easing. This is great news for consumers looking for bargains–deals now abound as retailers look to unload excess inventory!
This post aggregates the best deals likely to be of interest to Disney fans and travelers. Some items are Disney-specific, others are travel gadgets that are not exclusively Disney-related. The former are fun items for collectors, parents, people doing gift shopping, and so on. The latter are practical items that would be useful for Walt Disney World or Disneyland vacations.
If you want a broader selection of the current deals, check out Amazon’s Spotlight Prime Day Deals page for the biggest savings and most popular deals. The best deal of all is universally applicable–receive a free $12.50 Amazon Promotional credit with purchase of a $50 Amazon Gift Card–use promo code EGCPRIME22 or click the “apply code” button on your account from that page.
As with any of these promotional event sales, some “special offers” are great and some are…not so special. We’ve combed through the various deals and are sharing only those we deem good. We receive a small commission from Amazon for your purchases, so buying through these links helps support the site. However, neither the price you pay nor our recommendations (or lack thereof) are impacted by that.
We’ve purchased these items ourselves, have friends who recommend them, or are debating the purchase. It should be clear from each item’s description how we feel about a particular product. On with the list of the Best Amazon Prime Day Deals for 2022…
Disney Travel Accessories
Personal Neck Fan – We bought this little device last year during Prime Day, and it’s shockingly effective. It’s like that refreshing feeling you get when walking past an open doorway of an air-conditioned building. It’s not perfect, but it’s a really fantastic idea, and is a breath of fresh air during hot and humid days in Florida (which is ~10 months of the year). If you want a more powerful and high-tech model–check out the TORRAS Coolify Portable Air Conditioner Neck Fan, which is also on sale.
Anker Slimline Phone Charger 10,000mAh External Battery Pack — Even before Genie+, we recommended bringing a backup battery pack to charge your phone while using My Disney Experience or social media at Walt Disney World. This one has great capacity and the fastest quick-charging capabilities (it can power iPhones to 50{6932ee47e64f4ce8eedbbd5224581f6531cba18a35225771c06e4f1b3f0d9667} in under 30 minutes). This is the battery pack we bring to the parks now—perfect for the two of us. (The updated USB-C version is also on sale!)
Portable Phone Charger 36,800mAh External Battery — An even cheaper and higher capacity battery. Note: this is a no-name brand–we’d strongly recommend buying the Anker options over this.
Life Straw Go Filter Water Bottle — Florida water tastes awful straight from the tap, so it’s key to get a bottle with a filter. This bottle is the best option, hands down–what we take to the parks every day. It’s durable, BPA-free, dishwasher safe, and uses a 2-stage activated carbon filter reduces odor, chlorine and leaves zero aftertaste! It may not seem like it, but this is a GREAT DEAL (look at the normal price–this is an excellent water bottle).
Hydro Flask Water Bottles – This patented, BPA-free design is a cool idea that’s new-to-us, but incredibly popular. It’s a great way to keep drinks cold all day long–and is a larger size than most bottles.
Packing Cube Sets (Multiple Sizes) – Another staple of our packing list, we are fans of packing cubes and these are a solid deal. (With that said, there are a LOT of packing cubes on sale, so you might want to browse the results for “packing cubes” on the Prime Day page and see which sizes/colors/etc. best suit you.) Additionally…
Gonex Compression Packing Cubes – …We prefer these over the normal ones. They key here is that these are compression packing cubes, which normally cost more and will save you even more space when packing. If you need the suitcase space, we recommend this set over the first one.
Maxtop Packable Backpack — Takes up minimal room in your suitcase and more importantly is super lightweight. That minimizes the amount of back-sweat you’ll have to endure from the Florida heat and humidity. (Seriously, it makes a world of difference!)
BCOZZY Chin Supporting Travel Pillow – This is new-to-us travel pillow is incredibly popular, rating better than our favorite pillow (that had its design cheapened and no longer scores well). At 52{6932ee47e64f4ce8eedbbd5224581f6531cba18a35225771c06e4f1b3f0d9667} off, it’s worth checking out!
Up to $242{6932ee47e64f4ce8eedbbd5224581f6531cba18a35225771c06e4f1b3f0d9667} off on Luggage from Samsonite and American Tourister — I’m not a fan of hardside luggage or spinners, but this list isn’t about my personal preferences, it’s about hot deals. There are great 2-piece sets from both brands for $200 and under.
Anker PowerPort Cube Strip with 3 Outlets and 3 USB Ports – Disney has refurbished many of its rooms, adding USB ports in the process, so this isn’t really necessary for those. It is for many off-site and older hotel rooms, though. Plus, this has fast-charging to get devices recharged quicker. (There’s also this “future-proofed” version with USB-C.)
Repel Travel Umbrella – This is windproof, durable, and compact. You may not think a windproof umbrella is necessary for Walt Disney World, but during storm season, it absolutely is. (We’ve also lost multiple umbrellas under the Spaceship Earth “wind tunnel.)
Cricut Items – I say the same thing whenever this stuff is on sale: I have no idea what any of it does. Sarah said I should add it because her friends love this for Disney use, and there are some great deals on the various products.
Disney Books (Buy 2, Save 50{6932ee47e64f4ce8eedbbd5224581f6531cba18a35225771c06e4f1b3f0d9667} on 1)
Amazon has a Prime Day promo offering 50{6932ee47e64f4ce8eedbbd5224581f6531cba18a35225771c06e4f1b3f0d9667} off one book if you purchase 2 eligible titles. To take advantage, simply add 2 items from the books on this page to your Shopping Basket via the “Add to Basket” button. The offer will be automatically applied to your total at checkout. Here are our recommended titles from this offer:
The Ride of a Lifetime: Lessons Learned from 15 Years as CEO of the Walt Disney Company — This is past Disney CEO Bob Iger’s memoir, and it’s shockingly candid and compelling. Iger is clearly a smart and interesting guy, but all of his interviews are played fairly close to the vest and feel meticulously scripted. This is a sharp and fascinating departure from that. Highly recommended!
Maps of the Disney Parks — This is a staple of our gift-giving guides, and that’s in part because it looks really nice, making it an eye-catching gift. We covered this in our Top 10 Disney Park Books list, but it bears mentioning again.
The Haunted Mansion Little Golden Book — Disney Parks just started doing this new line of Little Golden Books last year, and they have been crushing it so far. We absolutely adore the art and style—they’re great for anyone with kids, theme park fans, or anyone who was a kid and has fond memories of Little Golden Book. (There are many other Disney Little Golden Books that are part of the 2022 Amazon Prime Day Deal, with the “it’s a small world” Little Golden Book being the only other eligible theme park title).
Disney Storybook Collection — A large, 300+ page hardcover book retelling several classic Disney stories complete with 250 pieces of artwork from the Disney Archives.
Thomas Kinkade Disney Coloring Books – Mentioning this because there are a lot of Kinkade-Disney fans. We love those, but are not huge fans of the coloring books. (Isn’t the whole point of Kinkade the color and light?!) Still a great deal.
The Muppet Christmas Carol: The Illustrated Holiday Classic – If you’ve followed this blog around Christmas-time, you know we are huge fans of Muppet Christmas Carol. I’ve seen it more than any other film (the next closest is Terminator 2, for those keeping score at home).
Other Prime Day Book Deals
Poster Art of the Disney Parks — This features posters from around the world, including a ton you’ve never seen before. This book was curated by Walt Disney Imagineering, and it shows—the design and artwork is fantastic. (Note that a new edition of this book is coming in late 2022, so you might want to wait for that–but it’ll cost over twice as much.)
Walt Disney Imagineering: A Behind the Dreams Look at Making More Magic Real — This huge book by WDI is a classic that belongs in the library of every fan. This beautiful title is actually a sequel to another excellent book that’s now out of print (that we’d also highly recommend).
Holiday Magic at the Disney Parks: Celebrations Around the World — This is an incredible deep dive into the holidays (mostly Christmas and Halloween, but also Easter and other seasonal events) with great photos, detailed information, and rich history. If you love the seasonal events, this is an absolute must-own.
The Imagineering Story: The Official Biography of Walt Disney Imagineering – This is the companion book to the highly acclaimed Disney+ documentary series, The Imagineering Story. This title greatly expands on award-winning filmmaker Leslie Iwerks’ narrative of the fascinating history of Walt Disney Imagineering. (I don’t know what full price is on this, but Amazon lists it as a Prime Day deal, so it’s a good time to preorder!)
Marc Davis in His Own Words: Imagineering the Disney Theme Parks — This behemoth is by Pixar director Pete Docter and Imagineer Christopher Merritt, and it’s a passion project about one of the true Walt-era Imagineering heavyweights who is behind a bunch of iconic attractions, including Country Bear Jamboree.
Walt Disney’s Disneyland — This is one of my favorite Disney books of all-time. Anyone who has owned or even held a TASCHEN book knows why this is something special. At a whopping 66{6932ee47e64f4ce8eedbbd5224581f6531cba18a35225771c06e4f1b3f0d9667} off, this deal cannot be beat!
The Disney Monorail: Imagineering a Highway in the Sky — If you’re a fan of Disney’s monorails (who isn’t?!), you’ll love this. There’s a ton of concept art and photos, as the authors take readers on a historical ride the Highway in the Sky. From Walt Disney’s Progress City ambitions to the future of this innovative transportation system.
The Illusion of Life – This book is an essential for aspiring animators, artists, or students of Disney animation. It’s by two of Walt Disney’s famous “Nine Old Men,” Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston, and is absolutely wonderful.
One Day at Disney – I don’t like this book, but it’s a popular one and the price is right at 66{6932ee47e64f4ce8eedbbd5224581f6531cba18a35225771c06e4f1b3f0d9667} off. YMMV.
Disney Toys
Disney Princess Dress Up Trunk Deluxe 21 Piece – Obviously, I don’t know anything about this–just that it’s a good deal and is popular among Disney fans as an inexpensive alternative to doing Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.
Disney Villains Maleficent Fashion Doll – It’s like a Barbie, but Maleficent. Wow, what will they think of next.
Disney Princess Fashion Doll Castle – Kids can imagine the “Comfy Squad” Disney Princess characters lounging in style in this large doll house, which stands over 32 inches tall. Castle includes a sofa, vanity, stool, wardrobe, shell-inspired chair, and a bean bag chair so kids can imagine all the dolls relaxing together. Can’t speak to the quality or appeal of this, but at 60{6932ee47e64f4ce8eedbbd5224581f6531cba18a35225771c06e4f1b3f0d9667} off, it’s a great deal!
Galactic Snackin’ Grogu — A follow-up to last year’s the Child Animatronic Edition, which won several “Toy of the Year” awards. This new version is inspired by Grogu eating his way through the galaxy in Season 2 of The Mandalorian on Disney+. Snacking expands the range of Baby Yoda’s interactives and reaction. The Child Animatronic Edition is also a great deal–and even cheaper!
Thomas Kinkade The Disney Collection 4 in 1 Multipack Puzzles — 4 puzzles in 1 package, with 500 pieces per puzzle! There are a bunch of regular Kinkade puzzles on sale for Prime Day, but this is not one of them. It’s just a “regular” deal, which still seems pretty good.
Fire 8 HD Kids Tablet — An educational and entertainment tool for kids with parental controls, goal-setting, time limits, plus 1 FREE year of Amazon Kids+ with access to over 20,000 apps, games, books, videos, audiobooks, and educational content from PBS Kids, Nickelodeon, Disney, and more.
Disney Treasures from The Vault, LE Mickey Mouse & Minnie Mouse Plush – These Amazon exclusive dolls are made in partnership with D23 as part of the Treasures From the Vault Plush collection. They’re now almost half off.
Raya and The Last Dragon Sisu Dragon Doll – Good deal on this 26 inches long character plush from the new Disney movie.
Haunted Mansion: Call of The Spirits Board Game – I’m a total sucker for cheesy and cheeky board games, as well as Walt Disney World board games. This is the perfect intersection of those interests. It’s a fairly strategic game that’s easy enough for kids but also deep enough for adults. Our one warning here is that the instructions are a bit confusing, but there are several superior YouTube videos that break it down in easy-to-understand terms. Highly recommended.
Funko Disney It’s a Small World Game Collector’s Edition – It’s the happiest cruise that ever sailed! Celebrate the classic Disney attraction, “it’s a small world,” in this playful journey! Discover the joyful children and whimsical animals of the world. Collect colorful picture cards by spotting scenes that can be seen from your little boat. Can you collect the most cards before the end of the day?
Funko Pop! Chip ‘n’ Dale Christmas Treasures Game — As a huge fan of Pluto’s Christmas Tree, this was an “instant order” for me when this came out. The fast-paced, easy-to-learn card game features beautiful illustrations inspired by the classic 1950’s Disney Christmas cartoons. It’s on sale for only $3.50 on Prime Day, making this an absolute no-brainer must-buy!
Sorry! Board Game: Disney Villains Edition – This family game combines classic Sorry gameplay with a wickedly fun Disney Villains inspired board, Spell cards, and 16 Villain pawns.
Disney Princess Monopoly Junior — Same idea, but with princesses and for younger kids!
Disney-Pixar Monopoly — Another great Monopoly deal. (Personally, even though I love Pixar, the Villains edition looks the most interesting and unique.)
Something Wild! Mickey & Friends Character Card Game — Another fast-paced and easy-to-learn family card game featuring beloved Disney characters and Pop! pocket figures.
Disney Eye Found It Card Game — A card game version of the standard board game that we normally recommend—and an even better deal (40{6932ee47e64f4ce8eedbbd5224581f6531cba18a35225771c06e4f1b3f0d9667} off).
Okay, that’s it for right now. There are a bunch of other great deals that are irrelevant to Disney and travel (but also don’t appeal to me) on the Amazon Prime Day homepage. We recommend browsing for yourself a bit, and checking back often, as new deals are regularly appearing–and disappearing. Just be mindful of the fact that some of these offers are time-sensitive, so you don’t want to spend too much time procrastinating and end up losing out!
Also, check back here throughout the deal, as I’ll share more Lightning Deals as they become available if they’re any good. Oh, and if you find anything that you think would be useful for other Disney fans, please share in the comments below!
